Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

0,5l bottle Light small yellowish head, darkish (for ale) copper color. Aromas of banana and caramel. A little bit bitter and dry with lots of hops. A little bit dull ending.

[220-20060303] 500mL. Earthy toast aroma. Clear, amber brown body with a few tiny bubbles and an off-white creamy head. Roasty-toasty malt flavour with some hoppy bitterness. Medium body, dry after. Nice but not fond of dryness after.

I last had this more than ten years ago and you could for a brief time buy it here is Alberta. Must retry one day, adjusted rating September 28 2007. What a fucking light struck mess I hate clear botttles. Page 425 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide 252 of his 500 Classic Brews to go.

(Bottled) Clear, dark copper color with a medium, fluffy and tanned, quite lasting head. Berry-fruity aroma with some nutty hops and toffeeish malt. Moderately bitter, pretty fruity and lemony flavor with a long, woody-hoppy finish. Medium-bodied, bitter, dryish, somewhat stingy palate with soft but foamy carbonation. A reasonably pleasant, but pretty straightforward bitter.

Pours a nice amber colour with a nice white head. Aroma is fairly hoppy, with a waft of caramel. Flavor is quite bitter with some earthy undertones. Aftertaste lingers and has a bit of a bready taste. Fairly strong carbonation. Overall a bit too bitter for me, but for those with more of a preference towards bitters, should be nice.

A nice dark color with a lacey white head that stuck with the glass until the last swallow. The aroma was nice, to quite nice, with a hint of molasses and strong hops. The flavor was wonderfully light and refreshing with a clean a finish that was satisfying, too very satisfying. The only draw-back was it ended just a wee bit bitter for my tastes. Otherwise, a beer that lives up to it’s commercial description. Cheers.
