Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

Bottle. On recommendation from Max. I’ll chalk it up to cultural preferences.

0.5 L (colourless!) bottle, ’bbe’ June 07. Clear dark copper coloured body without much pearling. A generous but unstable froth. Hoppy aroma with notes of ’sweet spices’ (carob, poppyseed?). Malty notes hinting at dark bread become apparent a bit later. Malty taste, again dark bread and/or treacle, a strong metallic note. A long harsh bitter aftertaste, in the end reminiscent of an overdone dark bread crust. Solid body, a bit astringent.

Bottle: Orange brown with an off-white head; aroma of caramel; bursts in the mouth with rich burnt malts and a bitter aftertaste, fruity undertones appear as it warms. Excellent.

I bought this beer on the sheer fact that its name is hillarious, and I’m glad I did. Its a rich in flavour, sweet smelling drink, which is great for black and tan’s.

This ale seems to taste of everything - it’s sweet, lemony, hoppy, malty and burnt in taste, but above all strong - it’s 5.4% and tastes it. Similar to Neame’s Autumn Ale Late Red and nearly as good. Man this ale is good!

This is Kent in a bottle i can almost see the hop sheds.... lovely malty nutty hop aroma as soon as you open the bottle beautiful malt flavour suggestion of rich fruits, good bitter hop finish. good mouthfeel but head retention is average.

Beautiful dark amber beer with a lasting frothy head. Malty aroma with some lemon and burnt caramel. Interesting flavour and feel to it. Tastes a lot like the Spitfire, with more malt and hops in the flavour. Average.

Bottle (present from brother) Amber with fast disappearing white head. Sweet malty caramel notes. flat carbonation and thin however a bit smooth texture. Little bitter finish! Very ordinary British!
