Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

75 cl bottle. No yeast at the bottom. Brown colour with a rocky head. Light hoppy nose with a noteable maltness. Fruity flavour with a quite bitter and dry finish.

Smells like English beer should do, has that wet carpet quality that is required. Has a good dark brown colour with enough bubbles to keep me excited. Strong flavour with slight burnt overtones even though it seems to be fairly watery.

Dark and bright. Raisin malty, fruit sweet with a dry finish. Weighty but wet. There’s eating and drinking in this fine chewy brew. Which is high praise from Sussex.

LCBO bottle. A citrus taste and a mild bitterness, detected a slight taste of alcohol and a pleasent hoppiness.

Clear nut brown with a large pillowy head that didn’t last but left a bit of lacing. Some creamy toffee on the aroma, which comes through on tasting as sweet. This sweetness is compensated with some bitterness, but the flavour just seems a little bit bodyless - shallow and sharp. Moderately lasting aftertaste. Ok, but it’s just suffering from the pasteurisation like lots of others unfortunately.

A dark, amber, brown beer with a strong, off white head. A distinctly toasted malty nose, with a citrusy, orange-like finish. The taste is dry, rich, with the toasted malt notes again. There is a citrusy element in the flavour towards the end.

Served freezing cold with plenty of carbon dioxide. No head, some maltiness, and butterscotch in taste followed by a sharp bitter finish.
