Commercial Description:

NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

Mm. Smells of malt, hops, estery fruity, really fresh. Taste is rich and malty with a pleasant bitterness. I love the fruityness. Fizzy and rather large for such a not strong beer.

50cl bottle. Chestnut brown with lasting beige head. Attractive yeasty, toffee, hop aromas. Creamy toffee in mouth with dry hop and toasted toffee finish. Yep, like this. Has some of the plums and cherry fruit of the draught.

Very clean pour with with a big head, a little coffee coloured. Nice clear dark amber. Nose doesn’t give me much, faint old fashioned hoppy, butter notes at best. Really starts to sing in the palate; more obvious sweetish malts and some solid body, perhaps a touch ABV driven. Finishes with great smooth bitterness that goes on and on.

Pleasant-looking chestnut-brown brew is supported by big chocolate aromas and thick malt. Interesting texture starts off feeling thick and milky, finishes feeling a little grainy. Nice chocolate-malt flavour. Very nice.

A Mes rate: Ahh Moris would be proud. I really quite like this. Nice amber brown colour with a head that looks like it is there for the duration but sinks to almost nothing. Once its has it lasts well and leaves surprisingly heavy lace. Fruit, cream and hops in the nose. Sweet malts in the flavour that is followed by a quick but tasty fruit kick for the finish that goes bitter eventually. A bit of toffee in there too. Overall it is fruity and creamy and rather enjoyable. Liked it.

Bottled. Pours a clear amber, with a big shortlived head. Aroma is fruity, and hoppy. Taste is bitter, and malty. Nice beer

See-thorugh reddish body with a light, bubbly tan top that laces down the glass nicely. Malt sweetness hides behind subdued hops. Fruit bursts out of the finish but they are also subdues - this time the hops are more pronounced as a nice bitter edge emerges. Not bad - easy drinking and enjoyable.
