Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

[clear 500 ml bottle from LCBO] Crystal clear, reddish amber with lasting, bubbly, beige blanket that clings to the side of the glass and forms nice lacing. The aroma is more like pale malt than caramel, but it’s nice anyways and well balanced by the British hops and subtle fruitiness. Very nice flavour: toasty toffee with significant bitterness that threatens to overwhelm fruity tones: apple, peach, raisin, other dried fruits. Light to medium body with moderate carbonation and just a tad astringent. I very much liked this beer.

Brown sugar aroma with slightly dead hops background. Copper body, off white head. An average quality beer with the required full palate but let down somewhat in the aroma and the flavour both of which have an uderlying dead quality. Probably due to clear bottles.

(bottle) Ruby red colour with a beige creamy diminishing head. Strong malty and nutty aroma. Malty taste with caramel and liquorice and a dry and lasting hoppy finish.

Brown colour. Hoppy, butterscotch nose. Acidic flavour with some hints of caramel and yeast. Fruity palate. Light bitter finish.

Brownish color with a disappearing white head. Slight aromas of dark fruits and medium-toasty malt. Slight buttery hints and sweet, nutty malt flavors initially in the flavor. Noticeable, lingering bitterness. Maybe it is a freshness issue, but I didnt pick up too much in the way of hop flavor

La bouteille transparente fait peur... Robe rouge très claire. Saveurs de caramel, de torréfié. Houblon de soutien. Amertume en arrière-goût. Intéressante.

Bottle (500ml - dreaded clear). Poured a deep, clear, ruby-amber with an average off-white rocky head. Aroma a bit skunky (hello clear bottle), general hops, yeast, some malts, somewhat musty and metallic. Flavour is pretty average, bitter, some std malt, metallic - get harsher on warming. An active mouthfeel. All I can say is, boycott all clear bottles! 12/20 for what I think it would taste like in a brown bottle.

Bottle. Pours a clear reddish-brown with a large frothy off-white head. Looks good. Aroma is slightly skunky and is that...it is! It’s hops! Floral hops to be exact along with caramel malt, fruit, some sourness and citrus. Flavour is mildly hoppy with caramel and roasted malts but It’s a bit too mild for my liking. Starts off overly bitter but eventually becomes less so. A decent beer.
