| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 8, 2005 Dark amber coloured, medium sized, firm, off-white head; malty, caramel nose, some hints of hops and a tinge of fruitiness (raisins); sweetish, malty beginning, but then quickly switching over to a fruity (raisins) flavour and soon to a very long lasting dry, (herbal) hoppy aftertaste....Very dry ending; well balanced, could be a stronger brother of a well made Duesseldorf Alt ! turbothy (722), Bonn, Germany
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 7, 2005 Pours dark amber brown with beige lasting head. Aroma is fresh and hoppy. Taste is bitter, nutty and ... bitter. Not my favourite style of beer, but this is an okay drink. tiggmtl (4311), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 6, 2005 Earthy, floral and spicy Goldings hops in the fruity, caramel malt aroma. Clear brass-copper coloured with a generous and lasting, dense, fine-bubbled, off-white head that leaves some lacing. Caramel, toffee and suggestions of darker malts in the fruity flavour with earthy, perfumey hop flavour and fair, balancing bitterness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Pint glass, just above fridge temp. Clear bottle (LCBO, May 2005). Boutip (2364), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 31, 2005 Bottle: Poured a clear red/brown color ale with a huge foamy head with great retention which is quite a surprise since all my previous bitter had no head really. Aroma of floral malt with some nut. Taste is quite enjoyable and refreshing with some robust malt, floral hops and some nice nutty and subtle bitterness at the end. Overall, this is an above average bitter. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 31, 2005 Bottle. Rich malt aromas with nuts, dried fruit and chocolatey roast in the background. Some hoppiness on the nose - not really to my taste I’m not a huge fan of Goldings in maltier beers. Drinkable with a decent level of bitterness and just a touch of the thin tinny artificially carbonated feel. The robust malts help this to stand up to the bottling process. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | May 26, 2005 Don’t like the smell - hard to discern, and upon closer sniffing a slight mustiness.
But... a nice mahogany colour with a small head and a nice bitter flavour with a lingering bitter/sourness that felt as if there was caffeine present.
This is a good thing. Overall, a good bitter, and one I would drink again. Sammy (4003), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
