Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

A nut brown fruity brew with a nice hop finish. A good tasting beer to have in the summer. It’s got an endearing tartness to it as well. The clear bottle means it won’t age well, so drink it quick.

Curious initial aroma. Looks great: long-lasting head with a little lacing. Beautiful dark colour. Flavour unexceptional, but the dry finish hit the mark.

I’m sorry, but I know this has a following and is a popular beer, but I don’t like it...looks ok, but that horrible aroma, and harsh unbalanced palate just don’t do it for me I’m afraid. I’ve tried this several times over the years, in the so far vain hope that my palate will change and I’ll find something to like about it,still hasn’t happened though.

Ruby brown with a decent cloudy head, no lacing. Strong malt presence in the nose, a bit fruity, some Weiss-style espers (bubblegum) at first. Thin carbonation but fairly full-bodied. Malts at first and pleasant bitterness, but lingering, highly aggressive hops in finish is too much for my tastes.

For a pasteurised ESB, this is fairly good - if you can get past that ’boiled vege’ aroma. Poured a clear (pasteurised) amber colour with a 1cm tan head. Good head retention and some lace. Hoppy aroma has toffee-like malt, some stone fruit and faint woody notes. However, it’s undermined by that distinctive pasteurised boiled vegetable smell. Medium-bodied, with a nice creamy mouthfeel and a dry, chocolatey bitter finish. The palate is the best thing about it. Flavour is satisfyingly bitter, with some chocolate notes and boiled lollies in there. (500ml bottle, Camperdown Cellars)

Nice fancy 500ml clear bottle put a Dark copper-brown ale in My pint glass. Modest head but good lacing...fairly pungent aromas of fruit ( apricot) over a musty burlap undertone. Good malt spine of caramel malts upfront but it is quickly balanced off by resinous pine-like hops that continue to get increasingly bitter until the finish where they leave a lasting metalic after taste....this is a quality bitter but these styles of ale are not my favorite so that bias may explain my overall rating....it reflects my impression that this brew has nothing unique to distinguish itself in this style.

Dark copper, some lacing. Clear bottle, no skunkiness present thankfully. Sort of a soy aroma to it. Bitter finish but it’s almost drowned out by the body which is somewhat cloying.
