Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

Bottle, at Winn. Brown with large light brown head. Light malty, moderate hoppy with pine-notes. Bitter flavor, long duration. To bitter in my opinion.

Bottle - 586ml. Superb dark amber body topped with a nice off-white bubbly head. Nice hoppy (Fuggle) aroma with some spicy and roasty hints. Taste is definitely dominated by the hoppy flavors. There are also some brown sugar and fruity hints. Nice and long bitter finish. Perfect for a rainy evening.

Medium white head, red-amber colour. Definitely tastes smoked. Well-balanced, not too bitter, very good thirst quencher with just the right amount of bitterness. Smoked aftertaste. Altogether very drinkable.

Quite a delicious ’anytime’ beer is this one. Tasted from the bottle and poured into a dimple glass, a short soapy off-white head formed atop a clear amber body. Aroma was malt driven, lightly roasted grain, toffee and a little caramel. Taste was quite balanced with intensely sweet malt tones and floral, Kentish hops adding a little citrus-fruit. Mouth feel is a little watery, though, and the medium carbonation didn’t seem to help. Much better as it warmed showing a little complexity and good length with a lightly bitter and sweet malty swallow. Quite a nice tasty drop..

Aroma: some floral notes with lots of malty toffee. Appearance: dark tea amber, good holding just off white head, good lacing. Flavour: malt, hops & some spiritousness. Palate: thin to medium mouthfeel with a long hop aftertaste.

Cask at Pig and Wistle, Chignal Smealey. A full flavoured beer and also hops in evidence. A little unbalanced with the sweet bitterness. Needs to ferment further maybe.
