Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

Bottle from Waitrose, Marlborough, Wilts. Good solid beer. Brown and malty with a beery aroma encapsulating toffee and bread. Big malt flavours, but with fudge too and a quenching quality, especially in the dry crispy finish with lingers. Very well balanced and satisfying.

A very good English ale - not too strong with a nice ale flavor (sweet and malted hops). Hint to novice ale drinker (like I was) - DO NOT drink ales straight out of the fridge - they taste much better around 40-55degreesF.

Beige creamy medium lasting head. Reddish dark copper color. Aroma is malty with nutty, light caramel and hoppy notes. Flavor is more balanced with malty and walnut tones, ending in a dry wooden hoppy finish. Medium bodied.

Mild and watery, definitely needs more hops, not much of an esb, a little on the dry side.

Got a bottle at the cafe in the Tower of London. Brown color with a thin beige head. Little lacing to be had. Very sweet aroma of malt, along with a hint of sourness. Medium body with an odd flavoring. It is mostly sweet caramel malt, with an underlying sour fruit and smoke character. The finish is on the thin side. Overall this beer is lacking in many areas but it is not terrible.

50cl clear glass bottle I bought six which entitles me to a free Branded Bishops Finger Glass which looks like anice goblet.Poured into a Hobgoblin pint glass.Malty molasses aroma with Shepherd Neame's trademark hops.A hint of citrus.Large frothy pale gold head with some lacing.Crystal clear body clarity - red copper hue.Moderately bitter roasted barley flavour wiyh some coffee.Nice bitter finish of long duration.Soft carbonation. I last tasted this in a wine bar in Bloomsbury whe I asked the barman for a real ale. A similar bottle cost me over four quid and I remember thinking it was too fruity. But I enjoyed this and will now have another. Cheers!

Small bottle. Dark amber color with a light tan lasting head. Light aroma with only hints of fruit (rasin, nut). Rather dry with malty flavor. Hops and malts linger on. I would like to taste it on tap!

A very beautiful ale from our friends in Britain. Explosive and robust, fruit flavors all over the place. Would not discourage anyone from trying this beauty.
