Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

Thanks to DOug Shoemaker for letting me try this one! Dark amber body with thick coppery head. Soft palate. Nutty and fruity taste that leaves a somewhat funky aftertaste. Altogether a great ale!

Chectnut colour, a bit weak head. At first malty sweet flavour, then lots of hops and a somewhat peppery finish. Some lasting bitterness. Thyme?

Bottle Malty nose, a bit citrus and quite a bit dust. Dark amber, low creamy head. Dust notes and unpleasant edgy malt flavors. No hops to be detected. Medium body, smooth moutfeel.

Aroma is skunky as hell but when that dissipates it's dominated by way-too-much-crystal-malt caramel aroma. Flavour starts really caramelly too but there is a solid bitterness balancing it. Maybe if they got rid of the clear bottles it'd be a bit better but I still think it'd be ordinary.

Love the purple label and the huge-ass bottles Shepherd Neame uses, but this beer's considerable more bitter than the Spitfire I just enjoyed and the malts are only moderately interesting. Presumably they're using Goldings here (b/c of the smell and the location of the brewery). If you like an English bitter with malt in the background and hops to the fore (and they linger, bigtime!), this one's for you.

Strong smell of Goldings and a nice malty taste with a moderate hop finish. I found this a lot more flavourful when it started to reach room temperature.
