Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in bottles and cans.
NOTE: Only ratings for the bottled vesrion should be entered here. The cask version has a separate listing.

Full-bodied with complex fruit flavours, Bishops Finger is a strong premium cask-conditioned ale brewed to a traditional Kentish recipe. What’s behind the name? Well, a Bishops Finger is an unusual finger-shaped signpost still found in Kent, which once pointed pilgrims on their way to Canterbury. Only the finest malted barley, Kent hops and fresh water from our own artesian well are used in the production of one of Britain’s best-loved ales, which is also exported in bottles to more than 30 countries worldwide.

500 ml bottle. Two-finger dense beige head over a clear, plain brown colored body. Pleasant nutty malt aroma with toffe/caramal and some fruity and mild hoppy notes. Taste is almost full malty, has a sweet inviting caramel flavor, properly mixed with refined bittering hops. Fruity tones. Good body. LIngering malty-bitter end. Harmonious and moreish.

This is one of those beers that has a reputation attached. You know the kind; the ones that people tell hushed stories about around camp fires. Well maybe if I were in front of a roaring fire in an isolated old country pub on a pitch black night and the only other occupants were a three legged cat and a toothless old crone then just maybe I’d be allow myself to buy-into the reputation. However, I’m not. So to the beer... Rich mahogany coloured beer with an oaky resinous nose. Deep oak resins and red fruit-skin tannins dominate the body with a resinous raisiny bitter finish. Nice but not the stuff of legend.

Bottle transparent (white), 500 ml
Appearance: Pours very clear, essential, strong tea like, deep amber body colour, body carbonation is mild, head is initially quite huge, slowly decreasing to medium, off - white, almost beige in colour, there is quite nice lacing on the wall of the glass.
Aroma: Juicy sweet - malty aroma with hints of carmelized malt, slightly burned malty touch, earthy English hops, aroma generally rather weak and faint but fresh, nice and inviting to drinking, slightly dark bready.
Flavour: Rusty metalic front with medium malty character, roasted malts and nice, well pronounced bitterness, very focused and essential in its earthyness, medium bodied, finish is average to long, some notes of orange at finish strenghtened by moderate alcoholic character on palate, tangy, chewy malts.
Palate: Body is medium, texture is smooth, carbonation on palate is medium, finish feel is lightly astringent.
