Great with a Christmas ale, even in the late January. This was the 2004 vintage. I am a bit amazed that another taster already has a sample of the 2005 edition. It has a great appearance, and the aroma reminds you of the christmas. It has a good taste, but lacks a bit of palate

2004 vintage. Falls short for me; looks good in a coppery-creamy way, tastes OK in a malty-spicy way but there’s no top gear to it. Feels thin in the mouth, no great warming feeling afterwards. Strong-ish ABV perhaps but not strength in flavour.

2004 Vintage: Poured a nice clear coppery hue with a initial frothy head which fades to a ring, some lace. The aroma is soft and inviting with a spicy, fruity and aromatic bitter nature. Nose also detected minor caramel malts and moderate phenols. The taste is pure Goldings hops with a nice balance of pale and toasted malting. The finish is a sharp note of alcohol, bitters, and spice. The feel is quite lively and refreshing, not much depth however. Overall, it’s a beer of quality and is enjoyable. I had always thought well of Shepherd Neame offerings, this didn’t change that perception.

2005 Bottle. Bright copper color. Nice head, that collapses and almost dissapears within minutes. Spicy aroma of fruit and sweet malt. nice! Very wellbalanced taste between bitterness and sweetness. However it has strange yeasty aftertaste (lightstruck?). Quite unpleasant bitterness. The taste is watery, but mouthfeel pretty good for a bottled english ale. Good carbonation.

Coppery color, little beige head. Sweet fruity, spicy and mildly caramel aroma, some sourness too. Well carbonated start in flavor, bites in tongue. Malty, sweet and sour flavor with some spices too. Ending is mildly alcoholic, not disturbing though.

Bottled ABV 6,0 Vintage 2003: Amber coloured. Small dense beige head. Malt, light chocolate and fruit in the aroma. A little vague, but still pleasant. Light vineous, malty, fruity and watery flavour. Thin bodied. Has a fruity finish with some light alcohol notes.
