12oz bottle. Amber-red-brown color. Big foamy beige head. Smooth and delicate caramel and amber malt aroma. Very English in some respects, quite malt centered with mellow carbonation. Thick and tasty, medium to full bodied. Pretty thick and sweet, closer to a Porter or thick Red than a Pale Ale. Either way, a completely respectable brew, with some complex malt tones. Subtle balanced hop bill evens it out quite nicely. A little sugary, but a solid beer nonetheless

RnH: tap: Amber all around, cooked malts, light on the hops. Forgettable... actually, already did!

Draft. Pours amber brown with a thin head. Light aroma, with a hint of malt and hops. The flavor has toasty malts with some earthy/floral hoppy notes. Moderate sweetness. Tasty.

12oz bottle from Supreme Liquors, Cambridge MA, 6 November 2009. Coppery colour. Slight haze - maybe a chill haze as it did not appear to be bottle conditioned. Moderate beige head. Slightly earthy, berry fruit aroma with a bit of cardboard. Decent earthy hops in the flavour with a lingering bitterness and some nutty malts. Slight metallic tang but nothing too intrusive. Quite like an English best bitter in feel. Straightforward but decent enough.

clear copper color, fluffy quickly disipating tan head, lacy. very airy nose of sweet malt. flavor is much more complex than the aroma, spicy, nutty, musty, malty (the sweet malt in the nose seems to have fled from the flavor). medium bodied, tingly mouth feel, musty, bitter finish. an enjoyable brew which gets more interesting as it warms. i would drink this again, but i wouldn’t go out of my to get it. bottle provided by my humble servant, cornfield.

Ruby/amber pour with off-white head. Malt aroma. Flavor is a little caramel, some sweetness. Smooth tasting, low carbonation. Great lacing on the glass. Very easy to drink . The best of the available S.F. beers.
