ClarkVV (3547), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Nov 24, 2007 Fresh bottle drunk on 10/24/07 Mostly clear amber-bronze, with a medium-sized white head that shows moderate retention/lacing. Bitterness is immediately apparent, with dominant citrus (grapefruit and orange) drying things out heavily. Some light resin adds acidity and the malts give a crackery dryness that does little to balance, showing some light caramel sweetness at best, and plenty of dry graininess. Some interesting aromatics, but it’s just just overwhelmed by acidity. Esters give a New England feel on the end, light fruits and some bland, doughy yeast notes. Medium strength of aroma, well-bittered, that’s for sure. Not much different in flavor. VERY brusque, citrusy, bitter hops open the flaovr, attacking the palate. Some juicy, green leafiness is pleasant, but pepper-like dryness butts in, clashing with the orange and grapefruit. Seems it can’t decide between an East coast or West coast IPA. Medium malts are not given a chance to really add much, but do show some caramel and honey dough sweetness. Bitterness eventually overwhelms my palate. Dry, though, and clean, for the most part. As others have noted, could use more aromatic and flavoring hops and less bittering. No alcohol noted.

Big malty aroma is IIPA-like. Big malt body somehow seems light on the tongue. Woody. Quick aftertaste like a spice wave. georgekappus (296), Brookfield, Connecticut, USA Apr 14, 2008 Bottle. Pours a hazy orange with a thick fluffy off white head. The aroma was very light and fruity. Taste was bitter and not very attractive. The hops was strong but not very biting. alexanderj (1229), San Diego, California, USA Apr 4, 2008 Bottle; poured a murky/hazy dark orange with a good sized off white head. Aroma was of grapefruit, fruit, citrus with a light toffee presence. Very pronounced toffee/toasted malt presence. That was balanced with some mild hop bitterness and citrus/grass. Dry finish; some butteriness developed as well. Average for the style, but solid.
