Commercial Description:
Shiner 100 Commemorator is a rich and robust brew that is a fitting tribute to our legacy of 100 years of handcrafting stylish and flavorful beers. Commemorator is a bold style that would have been very familiar to Kosmos. One of the highlights of the Bavarian brewing year is the rollout of strong beer or starkbier, developed by monks as “liquid bread” to sustain them through the Lenten season. Commemorator is brewed in that Old-World tradition and embodies the German-Czech heritage Shiner has proudly stood for since 1909. This 17 % original extract dark lager is a blend of two row Munich and Caramel 60 malt mildly spiced with Bavarian Hallertau Tradition and Spalter Select hops to allow the toasted caramel flavor to predominate. Alcohol by Vol.: 6.7 % Original Gravity: 17.0 % Bitterness: 17 IBU Color: 30 SRM Real Degree of Fermentation: 60.7 %

A little better than the Shiner Bock, but could use more carbonation, as another reviewer remarked. This is a really good beer, and feels good going down. Has a nice head. Love it. RJT

Bottle from Sam’s. Clear brown with small off-white head. Nose of bread, caramel, and a bit of vanilla. Tastes quite disappointing... like a regular Shiner Bock mixed with a Doppelbock and some water. One of the brewery’s better offerings, though. Not terrible.

Blah. Terrible beer. Aroma was nice. Strong caramel malt and mollasses. Pour was a beautiful red but no bubbles or head. Taste was like liquified caramel water. There was not a hint of carbonation in this beer which is a shame because it would have made it a lot better.

Bottle. Pours a mahogany with a medium white head that quickly dissolves. Malty aroma with notes of caramel and toast. Sweet to the taste. Pretty well balanced and a nice medium body. One of Shiner’s finer brews.

Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy/frothy, light brown, fully diminishing. Body is dark brownish-amber. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted bread, caramel), lightly hoppy (herbs, orange). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture, lively/soft carbonation. Not too bad for Shiner. Very simple and plain, but no glaring problems.

12oz twist-off bottle Pours a clear, reddish- brown, mahogany color. Tall, light tan foamy head. Aroma of sweet malts, light mustiness, and nice grassy hops. Sweet malty goodness. Tastes like a latin malta drink. Full of B vitamins, complex carbs, and refreshingly sweet goodness. Flavor of this beer is just that. Sugary sweet dark malt flavor, very light herbal hop character, lots of malt. Very sweet and refreshing. Lots of malt flavor, toasted caramel is very dominate.

Mahogany color with a moderate of-white head. Sweet, malty aroma. Flavor is sweet, but clean. Not my favorite style, but decent stuff.

12 oz bottle. Pours a beautiful amber brown with a relatively small off-white, almost tan head. Roasted, woody malt aroma. Taste begins with the smoky wood of the aroma but transitions into a sweet, crisp finish. I’m pleasantly surprised by this beer. Quite good, and not expensive at all.
