| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 9, 2009 Pours dark brown/ruby red with a thin off-white head. Nice malty nose, smells like a slightly overcooked cinnamon cake. Flavor is more malt, caramel, cinammon, a touch of fruit, and a tiny bit of hops. Doesn’t have the delicious factor though. Ok. scrizzz (1272), kirkland, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 7, 2009 Dark deep roasted burnt grain aroma, hint of smoke. Maybe that’s my hand. I just had a cigar. Very dark caramel, small off tan head. Starts roast forward, fruity ale yeast creeps in, wouldn’t have noticed it if I wasn’t looking for it. I swear these ratings on the page influence my perception. Solid and straightforward. Lacks the creamy chocolate character in my favorite dopplebocks, more like a single bock to me. boomerbrew (45), Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 2, 2009 Bottle poured in glass - malty aroma, dark beer, real nice balance between hop and caramel/munick malt. The noble Hallertau hop flavors were noted before reading the description. Spalter must give it the ale favor w the yeast aftertaste, kind of a fresh lingering taste. Not bad at all, heavier then your standard ambers. nickd717 (1345), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 1, 2009 Tap sampled at SF International Beer Fest. A bit underwhelming, almost whelming though. Reddish-brown color with an off-white head. Malty aroma, almost like a Marzen. Flavor is German malt and a slight hop bitterness. A little light on the palate for the style. Very average overall. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 27, 2009 Pours a red amber in color with a thick, white head that diminishes to a nice film. Aroma is full of malt, a light sweet caramel note comes through with some honey and a bitter malty note of Munich malt. Flavor is very full with a nuttiness and a sweet caramel ending. A slight water hoppiness come through at the very end which detracts slightly from the mouth feel. Overall a solid offering by Shiner with a nice malty flavor that works. jaymobrown (1354), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 27, 2009 Immediately noticed the very active head. Could only pour about three quarters of a 12 oz bottle into a 16 oz glass because the head would rise so quickly. Leather, copper color. Head was off-white. Lots of nice malt character balanced by a bit of hops. Like a previous reviewer, this is the best I’ve had by Shiner. kiefdog (1589), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 26, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy. Pours a dark brown with red highlights and thin off-white head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of caramel, grain, honey, brown sugar, some light notes of cocoa and chocolate. Flavor is sweet and malty as well with notes of brown sugar, grass, yeast, some caramel, raisin and honey notes as well. Generally medium body with a malty finish. Probably the best beer from Shiner I have had. Sparky27 (1595), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 24, 2009 Bottle courtesy of BOLTZ7555 – thanks J! Pours a clear dark amber with a 2 finger tan head that results in spotty lacing. The nose is caramel and light cocoa. The taste is molasses, caramel and faint dark fruit. Medium mouthfeel – not bad, best I’ve had from Shiner. Thanks Jason!
