| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Mar 25, 2009 Bottle. Poured a reddish brown with an off-white head that settles to a ring and left light lace. Aromas of dark fruit, honey, and a slight malt background. Subdued malt flavor with chocolate mainly picked out. Medium body and smooth. nuplastikk (1191), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 23, 2009 12 oz bottle. Filtered ambery brown-orange color. Sweet malty aroma, pretty mild. The taste is sweet ant malty as well, but pretty thin and drinkable for the style. Decently crafted, well balanced...but something just lacks in the body and flavor. Crisp and enjoyable enough, but doesn’t have the rich malt and yeast depth of a true Doppelbock. Good for the $5.99 a six-pack price. Drinkable but certainly not a good example of the style. smooch (97), Sylvania, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 23, 2009 Wow...a tasty effort. This thing has the flavor without being killer over the top. If you like the really heavy bocks, this isn’t it. Great dark brown color, but still can see the light pass through. Felsenbrau (19), Middletown, Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 22, 2009 12 oz bottle. Pours deep coppery brown with nice 2-finger head and excellent lacing. Aroma of toast, pears, roasted malts. Nice flavor of sweet fruit, chocolate, coffee, malt. Raisin finish. Would buy again. jcwattsrugger (5333), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2009 Poured Dark Amber color, with a nice 3 finger head, that left a little lacing. smell is of toasted malts, and a little breadyness, or yeast. taste is pretty similar to smell, sweet toasted malt, yeasty, biscuity taste. nice malt finsih to it, and has a really nice smooth mouthfeel.
Overall, this is a really decent dopplebock, and from shiner no doubt! Definatley one of if not THE best brew I have had from them. At the price point [$5.99 a 6er at my local shop] this is really worth the price.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 20, 2009 Bottle from Valley Farm. Deep amber in color. Somewhat sweet malty aroma. Some dark fruit in there. Some sweet figs and raisin in the flavor. Not all that full bodied. Finish is a little spiced with a hint of hops. Not great, but pretty tasty. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 19, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of mhewes poured into a tulip.
The pour is a dark, clear amber with a small cream-colored head that hangs around as a collar and leaves only spotty lacing.
The aroma is dominated by toasted malts with hints of caramel sweetness in the background.
The taste definitely has more sweetness with the caramel coming to the front more aggressively. The backbone is still mostly toasted malts. The finish has a sweet aftertaste that builds up after each sip with only a pinch of hop bitterness that fades quickly.
The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied for a doppelbock with good carbonation and not as dry as I was expecting after smelling it.
This is certainly not a massive doppelbock but it’s very drinkable and one of the better beers I’ve had from Shiner.
