Commercial Description:
Shiner 100 Commemorator is a rich and robust brew that is a fitting tribute to our legacy of 100 years of handcrafting stylish and flavorful beers. Commemorator is a bold style that would have been very familiar to Kosmos. One of the highlights of the Bavarian brewing year is the rollout of strong beer or starkbier, developed by monks as “liquid bread” to sustain them through the Lenten season. Commemorator is brewed in that Old-World tradition and embodies the German-Czech heritage Shiner has proudly stood for since 1909. This 17 % original extract dark lager is a blend of two row Munich and Caramel 60 malt mildly spiced with Bavarian Hallertau Tradition and Spalter Select hops to allow the toasted caramel flavor to predominate. Alcohol by Vol.: 6.7 % Original Gravity: 17.0 % Bitterness: 17 IBU Color: 30 SRM Real Degree of Fermentation: 60.7 %

12 oz bottle. Pours deep coppery brown with nice 2-finger head and excellent lacing. Aroma of toast, pears, roasted malts. Nice flavor of sweet fruit, chocolate, coffee, malt. Raisin finish. Would buy again.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy rich light tan head and copper color. Aroma is medium malt, medium fruit, yeasty, hint of earthy hops. Taste is husky/medium malt-caramel/some cocoa, medium fruit, yeast, secondary earthy hops. Medium body. Thanks to armock for the trade with Joe-jwc215 and me.

Poured Dark Amber color, with a nice 3 finger head, that left a little lacing. smell is of toasted malts, and a little breadyness, or yeast. taste is pretty similar to smell, sweet toasted malt, yeasty, biscuity taste. nice malt finsih to it, and has a really nice smooth mouthfeel. Overall, this is a really decent dopplebock, and from shiner no doubt! Definatley one of if not THE best brew I have had from them. At the price point [$5.99 a 6er at my local shop] this is really worth the price.

Bottle from Valley Farm. Deep amber in color. Somewhat sweet malty aroma. Some dark fruit in there. Some sweet figs and raisin in the flavor. Not all that full bodied. Finish is a little spiced with a hint of hops. Not great, but pretty tasty.

12oz bottle courtesy of mhewes poured into a tulip. The pour is a dark, clear amber with a small cream-colored head that hangs around as a collar and leaves only spotty lacing. The aroma is dominated by toasted malts with hints of caramel sweetness in the background. The taste definitely has more sweetness with the caramel coming to the front more aggressively. The backbone is still mostly toasted malts. The finish has a sweet aftertaste that builds up after each sip with only a pinch of hop bitterness that fades quickly. The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied for a doppelbock with good carbonation and not as dry as I was expecting after smelling it. This is certainly not a massive doppelbock but it’s very drinkable and one of the better beers I’ve had from Shiner.

12oz thanks to KAggie97. Pours a dark amber with a small tan head. Aromas of malty, caramel, and a bit vegetal. Flavors are sweet malts, and something completely weird and off. Just a sweet mess really. Thanks again Kevin.

Big stale sweet body with hints of maple and molasses. Some fruit funk and tame pepper notes. Musty aura left in the mouth.

Bottle. Pours a thin looking ruby with a very thin head and aromas of vegetable rot/gunk. Flavor is pretty cloying with gunky rotten vegetables. Down the drain it goes.
