| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 21, 2009 Poured Dark Amber color, with a nice 3 finger head, that left a little lacing. smell is of toasted malts, and a little breadyness, or yeast. taste is pretty similar to smell, sweet toasted malt, yeasty, biscuity taste. nice malt finsih to it, and has a really nice smooth mouthfeel.
Overall, this is a really decent dopplebock, and from shiner no doubt! Definatley one of if not THE best brew I have had from them. At the price point [$5.99 a 6er at my local shop] this is really worth the price.

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 20, 2009 Bottle from Valley Farm. Deep amber in color. Somewhat sweet malty aroma. Some dark fruit in there. Some sweet figs and raisin in the flavor. Not all that full bodied. Finish is a little spiced with a hint of hops. Not great, but pretty tasty. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 19, 2009 12oz bottle courtesy of mhewes poured into a tulip.
The pour is a dark, clear amber with a small cream-colored head that hangs around as a collar and leaves only spotty lacing.
The aroma is dominated by toasted malts with hints of caramel sweetness in the background.
The taste definitely has more sweetness with the caramel coming to the front more aggressively. The backbone is still mostly toasted malts. The finish has a sweet aftertaste that builds up after each sip with only a pinch of hop bitterness that fades quickly.
The mouthfeel is light to medium bodied for a doppelbock with good carbonation and not as dry as I was expecting after smelling it.
This is certainly not a massive doppelbock but it’s very drinkable and one of the better beers I’ve had from Shiner. aplusbreaks (330), , Colorado, USA

Aromas of malty, caramel, and a bit vegetal. Flavors are sweet malts, and something completely weird and off. Just a sweet mess really. Thanks again Kevin. fakepurseninja (794), Washington, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 18, 2009 Big stale sweet body with hints of maple and molasses. Some fruit funk and tame pepper notes. Musty aura left in the mouth. MrBunn (1561), Western, Pennsylvania, USA
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Mar 15, 2009 Bottle. Pours a thin looking ruby with a very thin head and aromas of vegetable rot/gunk. Flavor is pretty cloying with gunky rotten vegetables. Down the drain it goes.
