Commercial Description:
Shiner 100 Commemorator is a rich and robust brew that is a fitting tribute to our legacy of 100 years of handcrafting stylish and flavorful beers. Commemorator is a bold style that would have been very familiar to Kosmos. One of the highlights of the Bavarian brewing year is the rollout of strong beer or starkbier, developed by monks as “liquid bread” to sustain them through the Lenten season. Commemorator is brewed in that Old-World tradition and embodies the German-Czech heritage Shiner has proudly stood for since 1909. This 17 % original extract dark lager is a blend of two row Munich and Caramel 60 malt mildly spiced with Bavarian Hallertau Tradition and Spalter Select hops to allow the toasted caramel flavor to predominate. Alcohol by Vol.: 6.7 % Original Gravity: 17.0 % Bitterness: 17 IBU Color: 30 SRM Real Degree of Fermentation: 60.7 %

Bottle shared by Dogbrick. Clear amber pour with a medium tan head. Malty aroma with a bit of creamy caramel, but the aroma is very faint and weak. Caramel malt flavor with a noble hop finish.

The best Shiner has put out so far! Not as good as the doppelbocks from Germany, but a good effort and true to the style.

There is an aroma of grapes as the bottle is opened. A hint of grapes is also present in the heavily malted flavor. Full bodied and sticky palate.

I enjoyed a six-pack of Commemorator over the past weeks. 100 is definitely a commercial interpretation of a Dopplebock but surprisingly good nonetheless. Amber, medium bodied, bready aroma, caramel and spice all in the mix. I had a run on Shiner beers this summer, and 100, Black Lager, & Bock are all stand-outs for the Spoetzl Brewery.

Bottle thanks to Bob. Pours a clear dark amber with a thin off white head. The head deminishes quickly, but laces very well. A good aroma of caramel, brandy, banana, and spices. Has a nice carbonation. The flavor is good. Lots of spices, malts, and a good robustness about it. Has a nice mouthfeel. Texture is watery but not bad. Has a medium body. The finish is good and so is the aftertaste. This is a good beer, I enjoy the way it dances on your tongue. Good spices and it warms you up.

12 oz. bottle from The Party Source. Pours a rich brown-amber with a smallish tan head than hangs around for a bit. Aroma of caramel, toast, banana, fruits, spices. Flavor is caramel, molasses, nuts, and spice late. Light-medium bodied, a tad watery, sticky at the end. Not bad, but not special.

12 oz. Clear, darkish red-brown with a tidy little head that lasts well. Nose of caramel, chocolate, brandy and light sourish cherry. Flavor is grain, spicy molasses with a hint of cocoa and light grassy herb. Medium body is mostly smooth, slightly sticky and has some alcohol warming.
