Commercial Description:
Shiner 100 Commemorator is a rich and robust brew that is a fitting tribute to our legacy of 100 years of handcrafting stylish and flavorful beers. Commemorator is a bold style that would have been very familiar to Kosmos. One of the highlights of the Bavarian brewing year is the rollout of strong beer or starkbier, developed by monks as “liquid bread” to sustain them through the Lenten season. Commemorator is brewed in that Old-World tradition and embodies the German-Czech heritage Shiner has proudly stood for since 1909. This 17 % original extract dark lager is a blend of two row Munich and Caramel 60 malt mildly spiced with Bavarian Hallertau Tradition and Spalter Select hops to allow the toasted caramel flavor to predominate. Alcohol by Vol.: 6.7 % Original Gravity: 17.0 % Bitterness: 17 IBU Color: 30 SRM Real Degree of Fermentation: 60.7 %

12 oz. Clear, darkish red-brown with a tidy little head that lasts well. Nose of caramel, chocolate, brandy and light sourish cherry. Flavor is grain, spicy molasses with a hint of cocoa and light grassy herb. Medium body is mostly smooth, slightly sticky and has some alcohol warming.

12oz. Bottle: Aroma of slightly burnt caramel, toffee, light toasting, slight nuts, and slight dark ripe fruit. Poured deep amber/copper in color with a large, fizzy, tan head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Not sparkling. Some tiny particles throughout. Flavor is lightly sweet and medium bitter. Tastes of burnt caramel, toffee, toasting, nuts, burnt grains, light malts, and a hint of metal. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Burnt caramel finish is a tad metallic, and lightly dry.

Waited for this to come out for many years. It was glorious. Then there was a batch that made me want to vomit. After a while I got the courage up and it was great again. Brown pour with a tan head, semi sweet malts, and a refreshing finish.

The beer pours amber with red hues, clear with very little head. The aroma is sweet and malty with hints of caramel. The flavor is mostly caramel sweetness with little hop character. The palate is light and watery, with little body and the beer comes across as dry. Overall, a little too sweet for me, but it is not overly cloying. Interesting and drinkable.

12oz bottle. Poured a clear, dark amber with a short off white head. Aroma of toasty malts with light caramel and dark fruit. The flavor has some nutty caramel sweetness with subtle hints of dark fruit, cinnamon, and a slightly spicy finish. Very smooth and malty with a decent body.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of foamy finely sized tan colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a transparent typically carbonated copper brown colored body and a thick foamy lacing. The aroma was mild malty and doughy. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of deep caramel and floral hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.

Rusty colored pour with a small, short-lived, white head. Toasty caramel aroma with hints of almond, vanilla, and ripe fruit. The flavor has some nutty caramel sweetness with subtle hints of dark fruit, cinnamon, and a slightly spicy finish. Slightly thin body with lots of carbonation.
