This may be the worst beer I’ve ever had. Tastes like the bottom of someone’s boot. Even worse aftertaste. Bitter as well. Now the only question is, what to do with the two I didn’t choke down, try to give away, or pour down the drain (1, 1, 2)? Hopper (311), San Antonio, Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 6, 2009 A caramel color beer with a nice head. Aroma was nutty. The taste was real malty, with a nice nuttiness. It had a decent creamy mouthfeel & was a very smooth beer. troyc (1175), Lubbock, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 5, 2009 [Bottle] Pours an even brown color with a lot of off-white head. Sweet malty aroma of bread and light grains. Roasted malt taste includes some burnt caramel and light hop flavoring. Slightly astringent finish. An easy to drink beer, but still with a pretty decent mouthfeel. This is one of the better offerings from Shiner. drowland (1407), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 4, 2009 12oz bottle into a pint glass. I was expecting more out of this puppy, but it wasn’t bad. It’s like Shiner always does - make a relatively common style and lighten it up for the normal guy. lithy (1700), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2009 Deep copper color with off-white head and good lacing. Malty flavor is lightly hopped and finished with a burnt caramel taste. A good doppelbock. arrogantb (701), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 30, 2009 12oz bottle in a pilsener glass, this was on sale for $5 per sixer. Dark ruby red color, its got a pretty good malty aroma to it. The flavor is robust malts, fruity, nutty, a good dopplebock and for the price this really can’t be beat. I am going to have to give all of the other Shiner beers a go just to see what’s up.

7/27/2009: Shiner 100 Commemorator pours a brilliant deep copper color and has a samll beige crown that disappears somewhat quickly. The beer clean and clear with an average amount of carbonation. The aroma is a bit sweet and reminds me of French toast and with maple syrup and nuts (pecans?) and conjures up dried leaves. The flavor is quite average and lacking depth. It has some prune thin caramel, but there is a strong yeasty ribbon of flavor throughout that doesn’t seem to fit. The creamy, yeastiness builds more and more to the point that it just isn’t good. There really is no finish as the beer just seems to drop of and hit like a rock. It is moderately sweet with a medium-full body that has a creamy texture that is just a bit sticky. Overall this beer is okay and one bottle is more than enough.
12 fl. oz. bottle (twist-off cap, 6.7% Alc by Vol.) from Jungle Jim’s International Market in Fairfield, Ohio. Rating #166 for this beer.
