Jul 18, 2009 Bottle. A clear ruby/amber color body with a thin offwhite head,light carbonation, slight lacing.Aroma of roastd grain,dark fruit and brown bread. Flavor is of sweet dark caramel , rost and a hint of cardboard with faint spicy hops. Light body with a slick mouthfeel , grainy toasted aftertaste , all flavors seem quite subtle for the style . Drinkable but nothing I would buy again.

Jul 14, 2009 I like the description of this so I wanted to try it. It pours a relatively clear dark brown color with an initially big head which disappears quickly. The aroma is that of burnt sugar, malt, and molasses, very sweet and dominant. The taste is similar, with strong notes of molasses, candied fruit (cherries?) and nuts. The brew finishes almost immediately, leaving some stickiness but very little aftertaste on the tongue. I like this one very much, and the only reason I don’t give it an even higher score is because there is no hop taste at all...just malt. Most of the reviewers say this is quite drinkable and I agree, though I don’t want a lot of it. Overall, a most interesting effort from Shiner!

Jul 14, 2009 Dark brown straw colored pour with 1-finger off-white head. Nose is brown sugary caramel malt, cherry, fig notes (hefty cherry wafts). Tastes woody, malty, with hops, brown sugar, and a pronounced tart cherry flavor that emerges more as it warms. Decent.

Jul 10, 2009 A pretty malty sweet aroma. Color is a nice brown but the head disappears very rapidly. The flavor is nice. A good sweetness and some caramel. Pretty drinkable.

Jul 10, 2009 Pours a dark coppery brown with thin off-white head. Aroma is sweet and malty, with notes of honey and caramel. Flavor is similar malty sweetness with some brown sugar. Slightly thin mouthfeel and malty finish. Decent, but nothing to write home about.

Jul 7, 2009 Bottle. Pours clear mahogany with a small, fizzy, off-white head, diminishing with spare lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (caramel, nutty, cookie), light hop (grass), average yeast (broth) with notes of alcohol and brown sugar. Light bodied, thin texture, average carbonation, and a metallic finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, light acidity and bitterness.

Jul 6, 2009 I don’t know that I would call it a doppel, but it is not a bad beer overall. Pours red-brown with an off-white head. Nose is reminiscent of Samiclaus- sweet malt, burnt sugar, brown sugar, molasses, cherries/ fruit, and an all-around sweetness. Flavor is about the same with light malt, cloying sweetness, and a corn syrupiness that keeps asserting itself. I keep getting a honey and sugar with some cherry-like fruit in the flavor. Finish lingers with the same fruitiness. Medium-bodied and fizzy, but all-in-all a unique lager.
