Stewed carrots, celery and broccoli along with medicinal/chemical notes. Thick, syrupy, overly sweet. Twang, especially in the finish, is horrid. Sweetened aspirin and caramel. Terrible. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 25, 2009 Obtained from the Binny’s in Orland Park, Illinois: This pours a dark orange body with a creamy, short-lived off-white head. There were two small spots of lace left on the glass. It has an aroma of honey-coated toasted grain. Same with the flavor. Sticky sweet finish. This seems awfully lightweight to be called a Doppelbock. JPDIPSO (4922), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 29, 2009 Amber to orange in color with a moderate dissipating, light beige, bubbly head. Pour head retention. Caramel and pale malt aromas. candy kind of caramel, not a rich malt caramel. Slight herbal and plastic components as well. A bit to thin in feel and heavier carbonation. Toasted malt, caramel and some tin in the flavors. The metals not as bad as from a pineapple can, but I do remember the cheap old beer cans. I would be slightly more forgiving if this was listed as a bock, but still too many weak links.
