Shiner 97 Bohemian Black Lager

Pours dark brown - a little light in my opinion - with very thin head. Aroma is light roasted malt. Mouthfeel very thin. Some roasted flavor. Sprecher Black Bavarian blows this out of the water.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with blutt59. Pours a very deep clear reddish brown with a moderate-large tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left scant lace. Mild aroma of malt and bittersweet chocolate. The flavor is weak malt and weak, watered down bittersweet chocolate. Thin, watery body. I’ve had an opportunity to drink a few different schwarzbiers recently, and this one is the weakest example of any I’ve had.

Like coca-cola, thin and a little grapey, fizzy but fleeting. A little thicker than most lagers. Bottle from Knightly Spirits, Orlando.

Bottle. Poured black with thick fast dissipating beige head. Faint malty aroma. Medium flavour, some roast, some toast. A mild malt finish. Not bad, but there are better schwarzbiers around. A point in its favour is it’s cheap.

Ahhh, something, dark, something smoky. Something, that is not Blatz. If this style is your style may I suggest something a little more stylish? Grab a few Blatz (8,10,12, whatever) throw it in something fireproof, drop in some iodine (for that dark color you want) and light your house on fire, leaving the container in the inferno. That’s what this beer is all about (but pricier than the Blatz). Think about it, don’t question it. And relax. Decent beer, if you are into that sort of thing.
