Nose is moderately roasty and appealing. Touches of toffee, brown sugar and caramel malt with decent roast. Thin-bodied and watery mouthfeel. Decent and easy-drinking quencher. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Dec 22, 2009 Poured dark brown with very little head. The aroma was light smoke, roasted malts and a touch of spice. The flavor wasn’t as good, with the smoky, roasted malts giving way quickly to a slightly off-putting citrus or sour flavor that didn’t fit in all that well. Thin body. elgiacomo (95), Chickamauga, Georgia, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Pours brown, dark brown in the glass with a good peige head that leaves some nice lacing. Aroma is quite weak. Flavor is light roasted malts, some caramel, a bit of chocolate and coffee. Mouthfeel is thin with low carbonation. Inoffensive. Panzuriel (995), Westerville, Ohio, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2009 12 oz bottle: Aroma is bready, malts, a bit of smoke, licorice, caramel, caramel, and a very light coffee note. Appearance is a almost opaque black with a thin tan head that goes away quickly. Taste is caramel malts, coffee notes, roasted notes, and a continued breadiness. Aftertaste has a lingering malt characteristic that is enjoyable. Overall, nice brew from Shiner a very enjoyable Swartzbier. Cheers! ksbeerkid (25), Emporia, Kansas, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Nov 30, 2009 Chocolate and coffee on the nose, big dark and handsome in the glass with a nice tan head. Nice chocolate and roasted malt on the tougue. Medium sweetness with a light touch of bitterness. Loses some points for palate, light bodied and thin in texture, highly carbonated, with a abrupt clean finish. If I am looking for a few good beers, this is one to have. If I am looking for one good beer, this ain’t it.
