Commercial Description:
A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

Pours a nice dark color with a frothy head that just barely remains and clings to the glass all the way down. Slight coffe aroma...the only thing present on the pallate is a light metallic finish. Pretty good.

Pours super dark brown or black with a two finger off white head. Malty aroma overtone that up close degenerates into grasses; which is ok, but weird for a claimed schwarz. taste is far more usual with roasted malts, but a highly metallic aftertaste. Not terrible.

Aroma is subtle - dry corn and faint burnt toast. Appearance is see through black with a thin white head. Flavor is much as you would expect - a thin lager with a roasty burnt finish. Little hop presence - several people said they could detect a spice rub type of flavor... hmm. It is from Texas...

Nice dark pour with medium cream colored head. Aroma was lightly sweet and earthy. Flavor good, slightly bitter nutty coffee, can’t remember the finish.

Pours clear dark reddish brown with a fluffy 3 finger tan head that leaves some decent lacing. Aroma is of burnt sugar, caramel, roast, some nutty notes and some toasted grain. Flavor is roast, toast, light caramel, a little coffee, toasted almond and a hint of grass. Finish is grassy, herbal, and bitter hops along with some roast. Palate is thin, somewhat chalky and crisp on the finish. Not bad overall, a cheap intro to the style if nothing else.

Bottle. Black, though not opaque, body with a fizzy, cola-like head that mostly disappears. The aroma is mostly roasted/burnt malts, grain and strong coffee. The flavor is dominated by burnt malts. It is moderately sweet and lightly bitter and finishes lightly sweet and lightly bitter. There is a vinegary, tart taste throughout. Thin to medium body with a watery texture that turns a little gritty in the finish. Lively carbonation. The burnt aroma and flavor and graininess make this beer unrefined and more than a little rough around the edges.
