Commercial Description:
A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

Dark brown pour into thick foamy tan head that quickly dissipates into melting lacing on the glass that leaves no trace other than a slight ring of bubbles on the surface. Aroma of cold coffee, malty hops and roasted nuts. Initial flavor of smoky malt fading into a short lasting sweet chocolate, roasted caramel and hoppy finish.

Via trade. Pours a dark brown with deep ruby highlights. Head is creamy, two fingers, tan. The nose is . The flavor is malty, nutty, mildly smoky, some sweetness, peaty, very mild bitterness and roast. Palate is a bit thin, sweet, mild bitterness. Not bad.

Bottle - I enjoyed this more and more as I drank it. Earthy aroma. Subtle flavors in the initial taste which opened up to soft malt flavors with hints of vanilla and coffee. I think the light malt flavor really let the hops shine here. Excellent hop use in a schwarzbier.

Bottle. Pours dark brown, with a little dissipating head. Smell is mild, dark malts, little bit of chocolate and coffee. Taste is pretty light bodied, pretty sweet and finishes malty.

12oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a fizzy off-white head. Aroma is of malt, grain, chocolate, and smoke. Taste is of toasty malt, grain, chocolate, and slight coffee. Has a very smoky flavor underneath it all. Mouthfeel is creamy, yet finishes very crisp. It drinks easy, but it just isn’t that good.

Dark brown with ruby highlights. Off-white head is initially large but is mostly diminishing. Grainy nose, some moderate roast, a bit of brown sugar and a fruitiness akin to green grape. Mildly roasty flavor initially, turning ever so slightly more grainy throughout the flavor profile. Definite metallic notes towards tail end. Finish is light roast and some sour, wet hay. Rather full bodied with light-to-moderate carbonation. Rather one-dimensional, and not a particularly good example of a schwarzbier.

First purchase after my move to the west coast, glad the proximity to Texas got me this purchase in the grocery store of all places! Pours dark, smells malty, tastes great. Shiner has yet to disappoint.

Pretty dark pour. Aroma is mainly malt with some underlying hints of hops. flavor is mainly malt, with some hints of Crystal, Vienna and roasted malt, along with a bit of hops. All in all, a pretty decent beer from Shiner.
