| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 9, 2009 Pours an opaque chocolaty-sable with a thick, fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma is rich, smoky and chocolaty, inviting a taste. Flavor is dark and malty, smoky, with a yeasty overtone and undertones of unsweetened chocolate, as well as a hint of fine coffee. Texture is very smooth, and leaves a rather yeasty and somewhat malty aftertaste. riversideAK (2792), Shoreline, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 9, 2009 Dark brown beer. The aroma is kind of nutty with an underlying sweetness too. Very similar flavor. Roasty and nutty with a crisp clean finish. Cavie (1494), Fort Worth, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2009 From a 12 oz. bottle purchased at the local grocery store and poured into a Willi Becher style glass. Aroma is of sweetened coffee. Color is a deep brown with ruby highlights when held up to the light. Thin tan head dissipated quickly. Flavor is a clean lager followed by chocolate and roast with a little earthy hop in the finish. This is actually a very nice, easy-drinking beer like a schwartzbier should be. Highly under-rated. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 25, 2009 12oz bottle from Total Wine (Tampa, FL). Pours a murky dark brown to black color with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted and malty with notes of barnyard funk, chocolate, some notes of ripe dark fruit. Flavor is much of the same with a sour wet-dog, barnyard flavor that is hard to move beyond. Generally light to medium body with a sour malty finish. Didnt like this one from Shiner.
