Pours a murky dark brown to black color with a thin tan head. Aroma is roasted and malty with notes of barnyard funk, chocolate, some notes of ripe dark fruit. Flavor is much of the same with a sour wet-dog, barnyard flavor that is hard to move beyond. Generally light to medium body with a sour malty finish. Didnt like this one from Shiner. nqualls (1428), Nashville, Tennessee, USA

The aroma was a bit of roasted malt and some bitter chocolate. The flavor was nutty, with a chocolate finish. GodOfThunder (879), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 21, 2009 Fairly light schwarzbier with a nice roasted flavor, some nuttiness and a little chocolate. Pretty easy drinking beer without a ton of flavor but enough to keep things interesting. Not bad. LtDan (522), Los Angeles County, California, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/20 | Jan 21, 2009 I suppose this would be a great gimmick for lovers of Shiner Bock. Pours with a tan head, Not much aroma. What is there is just some old world lager oder. Tastes like any ordinary macro lager with maybe..just maybe a hint of roastiness. That little bit does count, as it sets it apart. Still very think and not enough flavor for my liking. Butters (1653), Virginia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jan 20, 2009 Very dark brown clear body with garnet highlights. Light roast and chocolate nose. Some vegetal nuttiness in the flavor, and a chocolate twinge. Medium thin body is a little watery with moderate carbonation. Nice surprise here. About the same as 1554. nj4christ (26), Columbus, New Jersey, USA

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 19, 2009 12 oz. Just shy of opaque with a small spit of a head that completely disappears in a few minutes. Aroma is scorched caramel, coffee and hints of dark chocolate. Initial flavor is grilled corn, scorched grain and apple. Nice finish of sweet-toasted grain, coffee and bitter chocolate. Light-medium body is watery, a little too airyl, but finishes with a nice roast-dryness. aletales (73), , Oklahoma, USA
