| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 25, 2008 Black, with reddish hi-lites, like some sort of goth chick or something. And a pale white head, also like some sort of goth chick or something. Tar and coffee aroma, better than that sounds. Flavor is roasty. mildly fruity. Some buttery notes. OK, Iguess. astrofrk (219), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 8, 2008 consumed at room temperature from a bottle. i’ve had shiner black chilled and on tap, but this room temp bottle is the best serving i have tasted yet. tar baby black, this beer looks like the gateway dress code to inner Purgatory. no light. no strings of promising reds or autumnal browns. here one only finds sins, sins, and more sins burned and sweetened in glass pitted pockets. strong aromas of dirty coffee and stringent anise waft from a bubbly and quickly dissipated sandy head. chimney heavy sip dust coats the brickwalled columns of the throat - all the way down. shiner black approaches bold and daunting, but calms on a wash of nutty brown ale goodness. complexity is the stage name for this beer. room temperature great is his middle name. one of shiner’s finest. as a texan, i sing this beer’s praises high above his shiner brother ales. 17thfloor (1493), Chicago, Illinois, USA
