| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 5, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours clear but opaque very dark brown with a light tan head with good retention but no lacing. Aroma is roasted malty with some sweeter caramel notes and a somewhat dominant soapy/metallic character. Flavor is predominantly dry, but with some nice sweet caramel as well. Palate is thin, but relatively smooth. Moderate carbonation. Easy drinking and different, but not too compelling. nbutler11 (771), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 3, 2008 Pours like flat Pepsi from the bottle with a faint tan head that quickly dissappates. Smells and tastes of barley, caramel, and watery coffee. Noticably carbonated with a light mouthfeel that dries near the finish. Refreshing, yet not as palatable as the standard Shiner. ilovedarkbeer (1369), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 1, 2008 Keg at Bman113VR’s house. I think I have had this in bottle as well. Pours a black brown color with some red highlights and a small tope colored foamy head. Nose is roasted and soapy with a bit of chocolate as well. Taste is malty and smokey. Mouthfeel is somewhat thin but this makes the beer refreshing and quaffable. Not bad. mekjubaksa (17), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 29, 2008 Bottle and keg. Although it appears heavy, it’s quite mellow and velvety smooth. Hints of coffee and cocoa. We tried it when it came out and prefer this style over Shiner Bock. We even got a keg of it for our wedding and took a tour of the Shiner Brewery during our honeymoon! A word of caution: Drink this one cold as the taste and aroma turn sour as it warms up. hayduke (1679), Eureka, California, USA

Thanks to bensonb I got another bottle of this to try. Seems the same as before so no change in the rating. Quite decent stuff.
