The chocolate and coffee flavors were very noticable. But, like all Shiners, it was watery and a tad thin. For Americans, a great beer though :) This one is a step ahead of all their other offerings save for the Dunkelweissen. It goes well with food but is not an after-dinner-beer, imo. marcus (1869), Sacramento, California, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 22, 2008 This black beer poured with a thin tan head, eliciting a strong malty aroma. The flavor is pretty thin for a dark malty brew, but it is mellow and reasonably tasty. Goodgrief (1152), Middletown, Delaware, USA

Aroma was strong coffee with a touch of chocolate. Flavor was a coffee infused lager with hints of chocolate. Not extremely full or rich, but nice nonetheless. implac (2), St. Louis, Missouri, USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 14, 2008 Bottle. Clear, very dark brown pour with a wispy head, Sweet, malty nose, with a hint of coffee. Malty and yeasty taste, very nice, with a little bitterness. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours ruby-brown with thin brown head. Nose is caramel, grainy, slightly raw smelling malt, a tiny touch of coffee, with lightly herbal and grassy hops. Flavor is toffee and lightly tosted bread, light sourness and very mild herbal hop flavors and a touch of bitterness. Also getting hints of metal. Palate is bubbly with some fullness, but overall little bit too thin and watery. Pretty good for this brewery and a interesting interpretation of the style.
