Commercial Description:
A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

Aroma is roasted grain malts. Appearance is a dark brown beer with a creamy off-white head with decent lacing. Flavor is burnt malts, grassy hops, and some chewing tabacco. Its overcarbonated and has a very dry mouthfeel. I was looking forward to this as being the best of the Shiner’s, but was disapointed. If memory serves, I liked most of the other products of theirs much better than this.

(bottle) Dark almost black with tan head. Aroma of roast almost smokey malt. Flavor is roast malt, hints of molasses. Schwarzbiers are hard to find - this is a great example by Spetzl.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a light brown head which dissipated quickly. Smells like a roasty, malty and lagery. Taste was roast malt, maybe a little burnt. Mouthfeel was medium-to-thin with some carbonation. This was so-so. It’s a lager. I bought a six-pack of this so my friend who wishes I’d have "normal" beer would have something to drink during the NFL conference championship games. Since he is a lightweight, there was enough left for me to rate one and still have some left for the next time he comes over. Ha!

Clear dark with small tan head. Dry malty/roast y nose. Malty taste/body. A decent dark beer but I prefer Shiner Bock.

Black with little head. Aroma and flavor of roasted hops, caramel. Body is light/medium with a nice, easy drinking lightly watered down roasted finish.

Bottle courtesy of soonah. Pours dark brown with an off white head. Smells of roasted malt, chocolate, some dark fruit. Taste is fruity and vegetal with some minor bitterness.

1/03/2008: Shiner Bohemian Black Lager pours a dark bronze-brown color with a somewhat quickly dissipating tan head. The aroma hints at roasted malts and caramel. The flavor is somewhat dry and contains watered down roasted malt and traces of something resembling molasses and/or licorice. The body of this beer is medium-light to medium and it goes down quite smoothly. This is a decent beer that isn’t too exciting but is easy to drink and has some flavor albeit not a lot...

12 fl. oz. bottle from Tmoney99. Thanks Tom! Rating #121 for this beer...
