Strange appearance as well - it looks like Pepsi in a pint glass - so bubbly and carbonated it is unbelievable. Tastes similar to a regular light beer. Not metallic at all, but is weak bodied. Overall, this is just very average! It just doesn’t feel right drinking a dark beer that is so light. dyetube (414), Dallas, Texas, USA
| 1.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Nov 16, 2007 This beer pours a deep amber almost black color with a medium tan head. The aromas are nothing special, I get that rice brew smell but a little roasted. Very interesting to say the least. On the palate it is a little dry, somewhat hoppy. No surprise here. Not a complex beer at all and quite lacking for a bohemian black lager, if you ask me. good thing I only bought one! Cheers! lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Nov 13, 2007 Pous like a coca cola. Smell is dull cardboardy malt. Dull similar taste as well with a hint of roast malt in there too. Average body, with a bubbly carbonation. Not too offensive, but not my favorite beer or style. A bit better than their dunkel I thought. trum22 (13), USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Nov 12, 2007 I’m surprised this one’s rated as high as it is. Looks like a headless, watery stout. Has an unfortunate lager smell, which is nothing but malt with a bit of skunkiness. Palate is thin, yet somehow filmy. Flavor is malt with a bit of chocolate and maybe caramel. I detected a metallic flavor as well, but no real hop bitterness. carboloader (321), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 12, 2007 Very cool totally black label. Pours opaque with tan head. Resembles root beer. Aroma is corn and malt. Flavor has some tasty roast and crisp carbonated bite. Mouth feel is somewhat thin and watery, but tastes decent and is easy to chug. I like this better than their ever-popular bock. redgold07 (308), Irving, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 12, 2007 Pours jet black, from all black packaging. More substantial than many schwarzbiers, great roasted taste... a good beer.

Black in color, small tan head consisting of tiny bubbles, Roasted malt aroma. Moderate carbonation. Flavor is of roasted malt, slight hint of pecan, chocolate and raspberry? Mouthfeel is bold, slightly creamy. Palate is strong, bordering on rough on the way down. Finish hangs around a little.
Bottle:
Dark almost opaque brown/black color. Large head that dissipates quickly. Little carbonation. Aroma of chocolate with a hint or raspberry. Taste is of dark roasted malt, almost burnt tasting. Very burned malt taste.
