Commercial Description:
A Bohemian Black Lager is a rare and delicious style of beer, referred to in Germany as "Schwarzbier". Shiner Bohemian Black Lager remains true to this old-world style by using imported Czech Saaz and Styrains Hops and select roasted malts to make it our darkest beer. First brewed to commemorate our 97th anniversary, this Bohemian Black Lager remains true to the old-world heritage of the German and Czech immigrants that settled Shiner. Prosit!

A dark brown to black beer with a 1 finger head. A roasted malt flavor almost like a weak watered down porter.

A dark brown beer with a red shine under a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, as well as light notes of butter. The flavor is sweet with primary notes of malt, but also lighter notes of roasted malt and bread, leading to a dry, bitter, and lightly roasted finish. The body is thin.

Good stuff from Spoetzl Brewery. Very dark, but not too bitter. Enjoyable for slow sipping. Has a nice smell. Usually not to expensive, around $6.00-7.00 per six pack. RJT

I think that Shiner must just use the same malt for every beer and add a specialty grain for different styles. Well lucky for them this is the one style that malt works for.

Pours, well, black. Beige head that doesn’t last for long. Sweet malt, some sorta burnt cocoa, some dirt. Some vanilla. Not very interesting. Thin palate.

Pours black with thin tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, choc, and coffee. Taste is similar with a little cinnamon on the finish. Give it a shot you will like it.
