Nice color, and I was looking forward to a delicious, rich, smooth schwarzbier...Mmmmm! But this was weak, watery, thin, and unremarkable. I’ll have to seek out somethign better. superdude1979 (61), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 30, 2009 A nice smooth dark beer. The taste develops as it is consumed, for me it started off a bit flat, but finished with that nice burnt taste, though not overpowering. Nothing outstanding with this beer, but a good price (5.99 for 6) makes it a good buy for me. I have switched from lagers in my earlier days of drinking to ales, when I go back to lagers it is only for the dark ones when they are on sale. I would purchase this beer again. jsquire (2123), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 25, 2009 Deep reddish mahagony color out of the bottle with full khaki colored head. Sweet, almost Coke, nose with some burnt grains. Initial taste is white sugar sweetness and burnt caramel with dark roast grains and some milk chocolate to follow. Pretty thin beer, but very servicable with a ham sandwich. milewide (622), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | May 14, 2009 Notes: 12 fl oz bottle. An excellent beer to have with grilled fish. Goes down very smooth for a dark beer. A: Dark brown, almost black. Firm head. S: Smells of cereal and other grain. T: A hint of malt, cereal, and grian that is not to overpowered and not to subtle; Very small bitter taste for a black lager. Acts like a pale lager with characteristics of a dark lager. D: Excellent drinkability. Very smooth. Low bitterness for a dark beer. ben4321 (1060), Rockville, Maryland, USA

I remember this one as being a pretty average Black Lager, haven’t had it in a while (this is an old rating) and I don’t remember too much else about it. DrnkMcDermott (1865), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 11, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Brownish-black pours, thick light tan head that un-swells to a respectable layer. Smell shows a light sweetness, but properly lagered to leave no fruitiness, just a toasty dark roast malt. Taste is slightly over-roasted malt, with an after-taste of burnt marshmallow. Other than that, the beer does grow on you. Alcohol is light, roastiness is more than one would expect in a mass-market beer. mmmbeer (765), Austin, Texas, USA

Aroma of light malt and a burnt quality to it. Hits the mouth with a low-medium body, malt is there and has been roasted, holds up averagely in the middle, finish kind of remains around like unwanted houseguests. Works for me.
