Smells maly and vegetal with some tea like qualities. Tastes of sweet malt with touches of pepper and spice. Average. NoiZe (1372), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands

Too much to add, too little to say :) Bockyhorsey (2551), Mesa, Arizona, USA

Flavor was alright mosly bitter hop but the fruit would show up now and then. Good brew could drink this while playing cards at family getogethers. GiddyBoy (109), USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 6, 2008 A good strong outing from the ever satisfying Shiner Brewery. This is a lot stronger and smokier than their Bock and other options. Very little head in the bottle version. It is good, but a bit below par compared to some other dark lagers. It is definitely worth a drink if you are in TX anytime soon, as are all Shiner brews. reggiekoko (10), saint augustine, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 30, 2007 Purchased this beer at the local HEB store while visiting relatives in TX.
Had a nice reddish-copper hue with a short lingering head with very little lacing.
My first sip revealed a smooth malty flavor followed by some perky hops.
98 reminded me very much of Yuengling Traditional American Lager -- my steady brew -- except that it has a stronger aftertaste.
Shiner 98 is a terrific rendition of this beer style and I would certainly drink it again upon my return to TX. Nekronos (2265), Xalapa, Mexico
