A tasting at Three Cellars Milwaukee. Fairly dark and a little heavy. Not bad. A decent backyard picnic drinker.

Was in Dallas so had to try this...on tap at "The Tavern". A session beer when desperate or herding cattle (or both), this one is light brown with minimal bubbly white head that dissipates quickly. The nose and flavor are dominated by malty sweetness and little else is there. Easy drinkin’...giddyup!!!

Bottle. My boss is from Texas and VERY proud of it. I got him a sixer of Shiner Bock, which he loves, and replaced two of the beers with Texas SUX beer (thanks to Soonah). Good thing he has a sense of humor about those kinds of things. So, I had two extra bottles, right? Well, the first one was combined with salt, pepper, garlic, butter and flour and made a god damned good sauce for my pork chops last night. And I figured for the last one... why not just drink it? I didn’t love it, but thought this was a good beer back in my macro days. Pours deep red with a small head that disappears quickly. Generic bitter malty aroma. A little caramel that does not want to be found. Taste is the same, minus the bitter. Malty, bready. A little bit of that typical macro lager taste I describe as "sweaty sock," but not so much as to be offputting. Medium body.

This is another example of why I prefer cheap macro pale lagers to cheap macro dark lagers. Although ok, it is just barely and like most cheap dark lagers, it fulfills neither the desired role (for me) of a "darker" or more full-bodied/flavourful beer nor the role of a basic pale lager. It is light brown with a small, bubbly off-white head that soon vanishes to nothing. The aroma is a bit funky, mild caramel, honey, bread with candy. The taste is a bit musty, sweet, stale brown bread, with a hint of dulce de leche and a hint of soap, especially in the finish. It is mostly sweet with just the very faintest trace of bitterness near the end. The body is thin, fizzy, and watery. As it warms, it becomes just bland and sweet, with nothing else. It is basically enjoyable and kind of easy to drink, but I have no desire to do so again.

This stuff is actually pretty good. Its not high end, but for heavy beer drinking it does the job. Dark sweet and malty, it goes down easy. Too thin and definetly has a mass produced blandness, but whos complaining.

Great Texas beer! Pours a beautiful dark amber. The full bodied taste leave you wanting another sip. Very smooth and not too bitter. I grew up drinking it so I guess its only fair that I rate it high. Have another? Why yes, thank you.

A Texas beer for sure, but this beer can beer hit or miss. I’ve had some froma tap that was amazing, and other times watery. From a bottle, I have had this beer taste near pristine, and other times it tastes dirty and old. So, that’s why it gets a middle of the road rating for me. Better than many beers out there, still not great.

Pours a rich brown, nothing special about the aroma, flavor is lacking and tastes a bit watery. Similar issue with other Shiner beers.
