agillespie81 (106), Denver, Colorado, USA May 24, 2008 Deep amber color......thick head, though it fades extremely fast. Very subtle malt aroma. Slightly sweet maltiness in the front......just a bit of a crisp mouthfeel. A hint of bitterness in the back.
sirpsycho (188), Murrysville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 6, 2008 Bottle at Vickery’s (Charleston). Served a medium brown, off-white head in a chilled mug !!! WHAT!!! I waited several minutes until the chill wore off to rate properly. Aroma is a touch of caramel, some malt. Flavor is pretty much the same thing, caramel and malt. Dastrn (66), Warsaw, Indiana, USA Oct 5, 2008 My first shiner was a decent one. Nothing jumped out at me with this dark lager, except that it wouldn’t bother me to keep drinking it, which should count for something! It was very unremarkable, but very drinkable. I’d never say no if someone offered me one, but I’d probably opt for something with just a bit for character if I had some other good choices. Alraomon (63), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Sep 28, 2008 A brownish golden pour into a stange (I like using that glass from time to time!) Head was pretty pathetic, very fizzy and gone about as soon as it came.
A little bit of malty sweetness, and the slightest bit of faint dark fruit.
Very lacking in flavour, which is a real disappointment. A bit of malt graininess, and a little bit of a metallic edge.
A little thin, but a reasonable dryness to finish, which is alright. It’s certainly a sessionable drink, but probably not for my taste. I would certainly go elsewhere for a refreshing brew, even to use as "lawnmower beer" Neematoad (61), , Illinois, USA Sep 23, 2008 Dark Amber beer with a nice full smell. Taste of malt with a little bit of sweetness. Finishes smoothly with a little bite to it. Definitely one of my favorite "standards". thendrix (7), USA does not count Sep 17, 2008 One of my favorite "go-to" beers when you just want to have a couple and relax without thinking too hard. Sometimes the beer can go down creamy and smooth, and sometimes it has a harsher effect on the pallett. I’m convinced it depends on ones mood and physical state.
