Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

12oz bottle pours light brown with a short tan head. Aromas of caramel malts, a touch of chocolate, brown sugar, raisin, and a little bit of molasses. Flavor is caramel sweetness. Lots of malty flavors, some molasses, and a little raisin. Overall this tastes pretty good to me but it doesn’t taste much like a dunkelweizen. Not much in the way of bannana clove and bubblegum there. More like a winter warmer to me but it isn’t bad just doesn’t fit the style. Medium body with a dry finish. Pretty drinkable though and one of the better shiners i’ve tried..

From the bottle courtesy of santa, pours a dark brown with a bit of redness to it and a thin but resiliant white head and pretty decent lacing. Malty, earthy aroma. Kind of disappointed in the lack of taste in this one. Cold or luke-warm, there’s just a bit of maltiness for flavor. As it warms further, there’s a bit of chocolate in there, but not much.

I always look forward to this winter seasonal form the Little Brewery in Shiner. I been a fan of this beer since the days of it’s original name Shiner Winter Fest. Nice malty feel and taste with a slight cocoa finish.

Bottled. Biggest impression was the (over)carbonation, straight from the pour. Decent dunkel but the flavors seemed fairly light and muted.

I didn’t love it. ghastly sweet up front is something I just can’t get past. mellows towards the end and reveals a few nice flavors.

Bottle. Light amber color, Thin bodied. Sort of bland caramel flavor. Crisp from carbonation. Mediocre.

Dark brown with a quickly receding tan head. Banana with a mild sweetness to the aroma. Heavily carbonated. Bread and roasted malts with a bit of chocolate creeping in towards the finish. Decent dunkel but too carbonated and the flavors are too mild.

Pretty plain tasting wheat, but what can you expect from some lager guys. Not nealr as dark tasting as it is looking, a little dissapointing, and a little keg tasting, even from the bottle.
