Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

Bottle. Ruby colour with a beige head. Wheaty, light caramel malty aroma and a sweet light caramel taste. Medium body with a sweet light dry finish.

Aroma was sweet and malty. Flavor was malty, hoppy, and spicy. Way more malty and hoppy than is usually typical for the style and to me that is a good thing because i find most wheat beers to be on the boring side. This one I like :-)

The beer after its extraction from the 12-ounce brown bottle sets in the glass a deep clear brown, with a portly semi-creamy light tan head that after its dissipation leaves an obfuscating sheet of lace upon the glass. Nose is sweet with malt and a hint of toasted wheat, also seems like a little caramel, fresh an pleasing to the senses at any rate, start is somewhat sweet with a fair to middling grain presence, and the top middling in feel. Finish is benignly acidic, the hops subdued as one would expect, very dry and clinging aftertaste, a drinkable beer.

wheaty aroma, smells lager like. Basic shiner taste, not offensive. The color is right. Carbonation is a little low.

Weak malt nose - no clove or banana at lal. Clear dark brown, foamy head. Papery dry end. Thin. Little of the expected weizen character you’d want.

This dunkleweizen pours a dark brown color form a 12oz bottle. Large to medium sized white foamy head. Aroma is malty and sweet, maybe a hint of caramel. A light to medium bodied dunkel. Malts are caramel and sweet. Not much else. Sweet malts and kind of bland. Soft carbonation. Smooth taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

Bottle... Clear, copper brew with a small, fizzy, lightly tan head. Very good retention. The nose is caramel and toasted nuts. The flavor is practically "not there." Very lightly malty, very lightly bitter. Light-bodied and fizzy. Short, crisp, clean finish.
