Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

Dark burnt orange color with a hint of red. Head settles quickly to a few small tan bubbles adrift and a ring around the glass. Thin caramel aromas with a mild acidic nut feature. Not pleasant on the nose. Nutty dry flavors seem to sum up the flavors. Thin and lightly acidic. Dry finish with nearly nothing to remember except for the small piece of tin in my mouth. Bleck! I may have been able to handle them calling this a winter ale, but a dunkelweizen, Please!

Pours almost clear and brown in color with little head. Sweet nutty aroma with a hint of cocoa. Desert like flavor with some vanilla, nuts and caramel. Slightly astringent finish.

Got this bottle from Duane. Poured a transparent copper color with almost no head and a decent amount of carbonation. Nothing special going on here. Slightly acidic on the end, but overall not much of the typical dunkelweizen taste in the beer.

(12oz bottle) Crystal clear copper body topped by a medium beige head. Aroma is caramel, orange, nutty, some metallic. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, some nutty, light floral, raisin. Watery light-medium body. Drinkable beer -- nothing I would ever crave, but certainly no reason to walk away from it.

Average slight off white head. Faint aroma w/ some complexities. Reddish-brown. Highly carbonated. The nose is odd like meat.. but there’s also malts and coffee. The taste is odd as well, a little too sweet and acidic, but the malts are caramel and there is a little hop bitterness. Very drinkable and would prob. go well with burgers and such. I was a little disappointed thou, as I remember last years being much more enjoyable with that banana & yeast quality that this completely lacks. Humm?

12 oz. bottle brought back from TX by some friends. pours a deep rich orangey amber with a small off-white head. aroma and flavors are of roasty caramel malt and some spice. this was more of a marzen than a dunkelweizen. easy drink but nothing spectacular here.
