Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

Was not a fan. Felt the flavor was off and had a bad aftertaste. Would not call this a winter beer as I did not think it had enough of the rich maltiness associated with winter beers.

Not the best winter lager that I’ve had, but it’s certainly not the worst. There was something in the taste/aftertaste that disagreed with me.

12oz bottle. Poured a clear deep amber brown color with a deep red hue. Has a medium tan head that settles out thin and stays. Very good lacing. Aromas of sweet malt, and wheat with a hint of brown sugar. The taste is pretty much the same along with a hint of caramel and raisins. Has a smooth and crisp medium body with moderate carbonation.

Bottle pour-Republic of Texas in San Antonio. Nice deep color. A nice balance between the lightness of a wheat brew with a deep maltiness. Mouthfeel/palate experience alone warrants giving this beer a try.

Boring boring boring. Very little wheat beer character and definitely in the american style of things. Lots of dirty dusty caramel.

Maybe the best beer SHINER makes. Toss up against their Kolsch. I really really enjoy this one. The taste is very very unique.

Pours a mahogony, thick head. Smells like burnt roast, bread, caramel. Taste like citrus, malt, caramel, hint of coffee. Better straight out of the bottle.
