Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

A typical winter ale, it reflects Bostonian beer sentiment. Dark with a caramel colored head. Dark taste, nutty and smoky. A nice brew. Oughta offer it year round, but then, it wasn’t special.

This is an enjoyable, full bodied, but smooth brew with a classy seasonal feel to it. I’d say it could be a *perennial* favourite.

bottle at dougshoemaker’s, dark amber color, minimal off-white head, smell of molasses and malt, thin body.

One word: THIN. I don’t expect all that much from them to begin with, but I know the good people at Shiner can do better than this, this was a total letdown. Did I mention it was thin?

Not bad, don’t remember it exactly but was pretty drinkable. A lighter version of Dunkelweizen. Ok stuff.

In the bottle. Dark amber in color. Small fleeting white head. Not very carbonated. Pretty watery in taste for the style. This might be slightly better than the Shiner bock, but not by much. My taste tells me this is closer to a Vienna lager than it is a dunkelweizen. I get no wheat esters, taste or aroma.

Pour is clear brown with a big tan head...looks just like regular Shiner...smells sort of like feet...also a little roasty...I suppose toasted feet...taste is horrifically sour...I think I taste puke in there somewhere...with a strange twang in the back of the mouth and finish...how this is almost a 3.0 mindfucks me...

Pours a very dark brown with amber highlights. The head is thin and off white. Aroma of lightly roasted coffee and iced tea. The taste is iced tea with a hint of caramel. Light and refreshing, but too thin and light for a good dunkel.
