Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

Ruby-brown colour. Sweet malt & caramel aroma. Thinnish body. Slightly sweet flavour. Doesn’t really fit the style that they clain it to be, but it’s an OK beer, just nothing special. [Toronto Christmas Party ’04]

Amber whit white head. Sweet malty nose, some mint herbal hop. Clean bodied, rather malt oriented.

Not satisfying at all. The color was misleading. I expected a full flavored beer and got a thin sour beer that left me wanting more. At least it’s Christmas time!

Clear brown, light beige head. Light chocolate, a little sour, no real character to it. Fairly light. I guess if it’s called a dunkelweizen I’ll go along with it even though theres no real relationship to one except it’s brown.

Bottle. Hefeweizen my ass. Notes of sourness, grass, yeast, caramel, bready. The best Shiner product that I have had, but that is like saying it is the best turd in the toilet.

Aggressively carbonated punch of cloves and chocolate malts. Some mid sip sugar, then sour afteraste. On dark side. Cheers for #10 at Doug Shoemaker party. An experiment on a German beer with spice , malts, and wheat.

Sweet malty aroma. Dark brown body with a smallish head. Flavour had a bit of malt and a slight burnt character to it. Fairly light palate. Dissapointing. Would never have guess this was a dunkelweizen.

Nice, metallicy aroma (ha ha). Nice appearance, clear, reddish-amber. Very nutty and bitter flavor. Bitterness stays in your mouth. Okay.
