Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

Bottle from lb4lb. Pour is mahogany with a good off white head. Aroma of candy, fruit and caramel. Slightly bitter with roasty malt. Sweet finish. Decent mouth and smooth. Don’t know if it was because I had a bad day at work, but I really enjoyed this brew.

(Bottle) Malty aroma on opening that was a bit too light on the nose for a dunkel, khaki-colored head that dissipates quickly. Carbonation is the primary flavor, with a very light hint of roasted flavor at the end. Almost no aftertaste, except for an odd metal taste, and no lingering body feel in the mouth after swallowing to speak of. Okay, but nothing special.

12 oz bottle pours a coppery color. Aroma is of sweet malt. Taste is metallic, bitter and puckering. Not at all what I expected from a dunkel.

aroma is earthy with a red color. The tent is clear with a minimal head, very bitter taste and salty. light body, soft carbonation and a very bitter after taste. Overall Impression; the smell hits the mark, however; the taste is a little off. Still a very good effort at a traditional German beer.

Okay Dunkel, but I expected more flavor. Kind of bitter, and different than other Dunkels that I have had - not as dark. Kind of malty, a little wheaty, but overall not a drop me on my knees beer.
