Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

Reddish amber with a mediocre cream colored head. Wheat and caramel aromas. Flavors of grain, a little fruit and caramel.

Pours rose red with a thin tan head. Smells earthy. Tastes sweet and spicy with a fair amount of earthiness. Decent.

Moderate malts and wheat in thee aroma. Frothy, brown head. Some very marginal lacing and fair retention for a Shiner. Redish-brown in color. Taste is malty with a salty finish and a lot of copper-metallicyness in the finish. Not sure what that is from, but it is in the bottle as well as my glass, so it isn’t a contaminent I added. Otherwise the texture is dryish with, as usual, a bit too much fizzyness in the carbonation. So-so, although it is very sippable.

Tea brown with typical Spoetzl carbonation. Head is a finger or so and slowly fades. Nice malty flavor with a clean finish. Less "Spoetzl"ly than most of their other brews. Easy to drink, not much if any complexity in the finish.

very good refreshing winter ale. I liked what was happening with this I feel that it could be better with some refinement. This is probably my favorite Shiner though. Wouldn’t buy again at present

12oz bottle acquired in trade with lb4lb (thanks!). Poured a deeper orange color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of burnt grains, caramel, and wheat. Tastes of chocolate, wheat, caramel, and roasty. Noticeably missing where any traces of bananas and cloves/spices.

Brownish-ruby colored pour. Has a small, cream colored head. Aroma has hints of roasting. Taste has strong hints of roasted malts. Finish left me a little disappointed....perhaps a little metallic.

12 oz. bottle poured into the trusty stein- poured semi transparent, off white head quickly went away, mild carbonation. Aroma of very light caramel and roasted malt. Hits the mouth with a medium body, defined malt, smooth and mild finish of hops. Very pleasing, and good for the price.
