Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

What happened? The first several times I bought this it was excellent. Later the taste went to a medicinal/chemical flavor. Love the color and a great style

Dark red brew with a fizzy head that disappears quickly. Very sweet and malty with a little bit of a creamy taste. Finishes with a strange chemical aftertaste. If not for that it would be a decent beer.

Pours a translucent ruby amber with a medium bubbly off white head that left some lacing. Aroma was kind of a light funky wheat tartness, sweet caramel malts, nuts, some clove and just hind of a sweet malty mess. That same malty sweetness came over into the flavor as well. Nothing too special here.

Copper-brown, with a fizzy thick head. Roast malt is the dominate aroma, with a bit of wheat. Sweet, with an in your face vanilla and caramel flavor. Almost a desert like drink. For a wheat beer, it’s not to bad.

Bottle. Poured a dark amber color with a light tan/white head. the aroma was very nutty and malty. Has a taste of wheat and caramel and brown sugar. A decent dunkel from Shiner.

Bottle. Poured a deep ruby reddish color. Aroma is sweet and malty. Taste is real malty with a floral finish. This is my first Dunkel.

A deep amber color with a thick head. Nice aroma and easy to drink flavors. This was a great dunkel. A lager with some flavor. The Germans got this one right. Nice wheat and malted barleys. Good brew.
