Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

Poured redish with good head that mostly diminishing. Aroma was grainy but very light. Taste was acidic start to finish. Just an ok beer overall.

Like all Shiner products, it’s a bit watery. This is stil an American beer made for Americans, after all. That being said, this is the best Shiner beer yet. Good malt flavors but a bit weak on the barley, imo. Not too fruity either. DWs often suffer from too much lemon flavor but ’too much flavor’ will never be said about this ale. This is a very drinkable DunkelWeizen but it is certainly not a desert beer. It seems to go well with food which is not something I’d say about most DWs. This is labeled as a ’Winter’ beer but in my mind it makes for a great fall or even summer drink.

Pours a copper color with a tan head. Aroma is very malty with caramel and some toasted malts. Flavor is mostly the same but feels watered down. Has a toasty wheat after-taste. Not at all impressed with this brew, there are plenty of other worthy dunkel’s out there.

Bottle Weizen glass, clear brown color, malty carmel taste, no hops to speak of, the diffference between this brew and regular shiner is probably the extra addition of munich malts. Still fairly watery, nothing specail at all.

A horrible copy of a good German style beer. Shiner says they use old German techniques but their beers typically lack any resemblance to European flavour. Not at all smooth. Hops overwhelmed any hint of banana or caramel. This was the second and last Shiner brand beer I have ever tasted.

Bottle Dark amber pour with thin white head. Bready biscut malt aroma with a bit of banana and cloves. Fruity flavor with a bit of citrus and wheat. Smooth, high carbonation. Not great, but good for Shiner.

12 oz. bottle from Plaza Liquor - Pours a clear deep amber color with a one finger thick light tan head. Has a yeast and a bready malt aroma. Has a semi-sweet light toasted malt flavor. Slightly dry and thin palate. Medium body. A decent beer.

Courtesy of Pailhead. Dark transparent amber, ring of film. aroma rather muted, but consists of toasted grains and caramel. Again malted caramel and toast for the flavor. Watery at times. Easy drink, maybe a crossover.
