Commercial Description:
Shiner Dunkelweizen is a crisp, hearty brew modeled after a Bavarian-style dunkelweizen, German for dark wheat. Shiner Dunkelweizen is fermented with an old-world technique called Kräusening, brewed to be smooth and rich without being heavy on the palate. Its subtle flavors come from the brew’s malted wheat and malted barley. This beer uses the old Czech mashing technique of taking small portions of the mash and boiling, then mixing it back in the main mash. This technique, called ‘decotion’, takes a great deal more time... but develops the rich dark color and creates the body which is enjoyed in the finished beer.

A hazy red beer with a lazing light brown head. The aroma is sweet with very strong notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet, but quite light with notes of wheat and caramel, leading to a dry wheaty end. The body is thin.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Clear, dark brown with an orange glow and a creamy, beige head. Medium-bodied with some caramel sweetness and lightly burned accents. There really ain’t much wheat in this - reminds me mostly of a Dunkel. 170406

Dark amber color. Very simple ale, with some caramel.

Dark amber color. Aroma of caramel and malt. The taste features simply caramel and some roasted malt. Not bad, but not my cup of tea.

(12oz bottle) Crystal clear copper body topped by a medium beige head. Aroma is caramel, orange, nutty, some metallic. Taste is medium sweet, caramel, some nutty, light floral, raisin. Watery light-medium body. Drinkable beer -- nothing I would ever crave, but certainly no reason to walk away from it.

12oz bottle acquired in trade with lb4lb (thanks!). Poured a deeper orange color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of burnt grains, caramel, and wheat. Tastes of chocolate, wheat, caramel, and roasty. Noticeably missing where any traces of bananas and cloves/spices.
