| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 5/20 | Aug 25, 2008 This was pretty weak. Not much body to it for a hefe, i would have to say this is very much a wheat ale. Very lemony and sparkley. At least its over 5%. The bock is drinkable, but this stuff I am going to keep my distance from. hamsterglory (48), Bryan, Texas, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 22, 2008 i learned one important fact about texans when i moved to the republican a year ago: they love them some shiner. anything shiner. everything shiner. the texans are plum gaa-gaa over a big honkin’ glass of shiner. though i’m not a big shiner fan, this hefeweizen is one of my favorite hefes on the market. translucent wedges of citrus gelled light pile up in the glass looking more like a tall winter cider than a summer ale. thick syrupy shafts of yellow light, orange light, spiced up and peeled over light promise a large flavor in this beer. the aroma reminds me of childhood fingertips - overly gloved in orange peels and lemon juice. the flavor hits with a stout slice of citrus, puckering the corners of the mouth while sucking in a breathe of fresh air to settle the intensity of the sour notes. subsequent sips - or chews - wash back a slightly sweet hint of honey and malts, balancing the initial onslaught of florida groves in texas heat. personally, i’m glad the shiners allowed natural lemons and oranges to rule in this beer as opposed to so many of the more fancily spiced coriander and clove hefes that drink more like heavy cake than a good wheat. no, shiner hefe is a very refreshing beer - great for rocking chairs on the front porch during a sweltering summer afternoon. grab a bottle of this when grandma runs out of her famous lemonade. | 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Appearance: Pours a hazy, straw-colored body with a medium-sized, fizzy, white head.
Smell: Fresh wheat scent with minor notes of banana, spice, and tart lemons. Has a slight sourness to it, I must say.
Taste: Tangy wheat malt, slightly sweet. Light hint of banana fruitiness. Dash of spices. Mild spicy hops with a light bitterness. Drop of sweetened, tart-tasting lemon juice. Sourish finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium-high carbonation.
Drinkability: While it’s not terrible, it’s not altogether great either. douglas88 (1605), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Aug 19, 2008 Bottle from unclemike, and my first Texas beer! Pours a cloudy orange color with a small white head. The aroma is full of lemon, oranges, and wheat, quite tart actually. The taste is full of a very tart lemon, orange, some wheat. but overall quite tart almost pushing towards a odd kind of gueze or sour lambic. Not bad. A fizzy and light mouthfeel.
